The Moscone Center is host to hundreds of corporate events each year. It is the largest convention and exhibition complex in San Francisco, California. It has three main halls: Two underground halls underneath Yerba Buena Gardens, known as Moscone North and Moscone South, and a three-level Moscone West exhibition hall across 4th Street. It was initially built in 1981 by architects Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum as one single hall, Moscone South, and named after George Moscone, a former mayor of San Francisco who was assassinated in 1978. You may being coming to San Francisco to attend one of the many Moscone Center conferences. We have several corporate accommodations to choose from but our Inner Sunset house would be a great choice.
Moscone's first year as Mayor was spent preventing the San Francisco Giants professional baseball team from moving to Toronto and advocating a citywide ballot initiative in favor of district election to the Board of Supervisors. Moscone was the first mayor to appoint large numbers of women, gays and lesbians and racial minorities to city commissions and advisory boards. Late in 1978, Dan White resigned from the Board of Supervisors.
His resignation meant that Moscone would choose White's successor, and thus could tip the Board's balance of power in Moscone's favor. Recognizing this, those who supported a more conservative agenda talked White into changing his mind. White requested that Moscone re-appoint him to his former seat. Moscone originally indicated a willingness to consider, but more liberal city leaders, including Milk, lobbied him against the idea, and Moscone ultimately decided not to re-appoint White. On November 27, 1978, White went to San Francisco City Hall to meet with Moscone and make a final plea for re-appointment. When Moscone declined to reconsider his decision, White shot and killed Moscone, then went to Milk's office and shot Milk, killing him as well.
The Moscone Center is known for hosting several large professional gatherings, such as the Macworld Expo, RSA Conference, American Bar Association's annual meeting, the Game Developers Conference, the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, JavaOne and public gated events such as WonderCon and the 1984 Democratic National Convention. Hotel rooms can be stuffy, small and boring so why not rent our Ocean Beach corporate rental. It is blocks from the beach which is ideal for an early morning run before you head over to the conference or a breakfast meeting.
The location of the complex in the South of Market area provides easy access to downtown San Francisco's many hotels and restaurants, as well as major transportation systems such as BART and Muni Metro. The Amtrak bus stop at the Moscone Center (station code SFM) also transports riders to the Emeryville Amtrak station.
American Airlines recently [citation needed] announced plans for an AAdvance Bag Check facility at the Moscone Center. American Airlines passengers will be able to check their luggage and print their boarding pass at Moscone, then simply collect the bags at their final destination.
